The National Institute of Virology (NIV) in India has discovered the Clade 9 varicella strain, often known as chickenpox. For the first time in the country, the varicella-zoster virus variety was found by researchers studying chickenpox. VZV, which is common in countries like Germany, the UK, and the US, causes shingles in adults and teens as well as chickenpox in children.
While Clade 9 viruses have just recently been discovered, Clade 1 and Clade 5 viruses were prevalent in India. On September 6, the study’s findings were published in the “Annals of Medicine.”
VZV is a herpesvirus, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Aerosols, droplets, or direct contact with respiratory secretions are all ways that this virus might spread. Further, it states that although VZV may cause more serious illnesses in adults, it only does so in children. Furthermore, it may be fatal, particularly for infants and those with compromised immune systems.
Varicella, often known as chickenpox, is identified by an itchy rash that generally begins on the face and scalp and is initially accompanied by fever and malaise, according to the WHO.
In addition to pneumonia or encephalitis (brain inflammation), it may infrequently be deadly.
Other symptoms include a loss of appetite, a headache, a fever, body pains, and a general feeling of malaise.
In most cases, the rash develops as papule-like pimples and shows up two to three weeks after viral encounter.
Prevention-
There are currently no known distinctions between Clade 9 and Clade 1 and Clade 5 in terms of the severity of illness. Medical authorities believe that vaccination is the best way to avoid catching the virus. Additionally, it is suggested that you wash your hands regularly and maintain proper hygiene.
Treatment-
You must seek medical attention as soon as these symptoms appear. A soothing lotion may be used on the rash to lessen swelling and pain surrounding it in addition to prescription drugs.
