China said on Tuesday that it has backed India’s decision to host the G20 Summit this year and is prepared to cooperate with all parties to ensure the success of the important international meeting taking place in New Delhi this week.
Premier Li Qiang will represent China at the G20 Summit instead of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese foreign ministry announced a day earlier. The ministry spokesperson said at a regular briefing that China always places a high value on the G20 grouping and actively participates in relevant activities, according to PTI.
According to a spokeswoman, “We support India in hosting this year’s summit and stand ready to work with all parties to make the G20 Summit a success.” The conference is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 9–10 of this year.
The spokeswoman was reported in the newspaper as saying that the G20 is the top venue for global economic cooperation.
The spokeswoman said that overall China-India ties have been steady and that “our two sides have maintained dialogue and communication at various levels” without addressing the border issue, according to the article.
The two nations’ and their peoples’ shared interests are served by the ongoing development and strengthening of China-India ties. According to the article, the spokesman added, “We remain ready to cooperate with India to further strengthen and promote bilateral ties.
Since the tragic fighting in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan Valley in June 2020, relations between India and China have been severely strained.
Even though the two sides completed their pullout from a number of regions after protracted diplomatic and military discussions, the Indian and Chinese soldiers have been engaged in a three-year-long conflict in specific flashpoints in eastern Ladakh.
India has constantly argued that preserving calm and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was essential for the normalization of all relations.
Premier Li will represent China at the September 5–8 ASEAN Summit in Indonesia. After attending the East Asia summit in Jakarta, he will depart for India.
Among the G20 leaders who have already confirmed their attendance at the summit are US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The G20 member nations account for over two-thirds of global population, over 75% of global commerce, and nearly 85% of the world’s GDP.
Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union make up the group.
