Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, criticised the BJP on Thursday for the altercation between wrestlers and police at Jantar Mantar and described the party’s attitude of national athletes as disgraceful and haughty.
In a tweet written in Hindi, Kejriwal urged people to remove the BJP from power, claiming that it was doing it out of “hooliganism” and out of a sense of inflated self-importance.
Sharing a video of Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal tweeted, “Such conduct with the country’s champion players? This is really regrettable and humiliating.
In a letter, he urged everyone in the nation to “no longer tolerate BJP’s hooliganism; the time has come to uproot the BJP and chase them away.”
Kejriwal recently paid a visit to the wrestlers and offered his support.
Several protesters were hurt when a fight broke out late on Wednesday night between wrestlers staging a protest at Jantar Mantar and some police officers.
Somnath Bharti, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator, and Deepender Hooda, a leader in the Congress, were among those taken into custody as a result of the event, according to the police.
Some of the protesters were seen accusing a policeman of assaulting two wrestlers while intoxicated in a video that went viral on social media.
After police officers stationed there questioned some residents about cots brought by Bharti, the protesters allegedly turned violent, according to the police.
Since April 23, the wrestlers have been seeking the arrest of WFI President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is accused of sexual harassment.
The WFI president was the subject of two FIRs filed by the Delhi Police on February 28. The Delhi Police then made a protection offer to the female wrestlers who had complained against the WFI president.
Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, greets protesters
Hours after a fight broke out at the location between wrestlers and police that left a few protestors hurt, the Delhi Commission For Women on Thursday met with the wrestlers demonstrating at Jantar Mantar.
Maliwal had complained that she hadn’t been permitted to see the wrestlers prior to the meeting.
She was heard telling police officers that she held a constitutional role and that she wanted to meet the demonstrators in a video she posted on Twitter.

The wrestlers have accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and an MP for the BJP from Uttar Pradesh, of sexual harassment.
The wrestlers claim that on Wednesday night, several policeman beat them up.
They claim that the battle caused the injuries to two wrestlers, Rahul Yadav and Dushyant Phogat. Award-winning wrestler Vinesh Phogat also sustained brain injuries.
When Deepender Singh Hooda and Swati Maliwal arrived to the location to encourage the wrestlers on Wednesday night, police arrested them.
