The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal has denied CM Mamata Banerjee’s allegations of electoral fraud, stating that the procedure for updating the voter roll complies with the law.
Citing the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and the Manual on Electoral Rolls, the West Bengal CEO responded on its official account on X to accusations of election fraud by outlining the steps for updating electoral rolls.
According to the post, “BLOs, AEROs, EROs, DEOs, and CEOs from all States and UTs are involved in the process.” “Active participation by political parties is facilitated by Booth Level Agents, and any objections must be brought to the attention of West Bengal’s 80,633 BLOs, 3,049 AEROs, and 294 EROs first.”
Following Ms. Banerjee’s declaration that a committee will be established to look into purported discrepancies in the state’s voter lists, the Chief Electoral Officer responded.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee compared the West Bengal issue to purported voting anomalies in Delhi and Maharashtra on Thursday, accusing the BJP of manipulating voter rolls. She asserted that the BJP was trying to duplicate the strategies it had employed in other states in West Bengal.
Ms. Banerjee said that the Election Commissioner’s office had created a phoney voter list online and included phoney voters in each West Bengal district. Because the opposition was not aware of these tactics, they were able to win elections in Delhi and Maharashtra thanks to this tactic. The majority of these phoney voters are from Gujarat and Haryana. Bengal’s tradition of independence is being undermined by the BJP’s manipulation of the voter list with the support of the Election Commission.
