Priyanka Gandhi, the general secretary of the Congress party, kickstarted the party’s campaign for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections by holding a massive rally in New Delhi/Jabalpur. Prior to the rally, she joined state Congress chief Kamal Nath, party MP Vivek Tankha, and other party leaders in offering prayers at the banks of the river Narmada in Jabalpur. During her address, Ms. Gandhi criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, highlighting issues such as corruption and inflation.
She questioned the BJP’s performance in the state over the past three years, asking the audience if their lives had improved under the current government. Ms. Gandhi also pointed to the recent victories of the Congress party in the assembly elections of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, stating that these results were a strong response from the people to the BJP.
Jabalpur, located in the Mahakoshal region of Madhya Pradesh, holds significance as it houses a considerable number of tribal voters. The city is recognized as the cultural capital of the state.
Vivek Tankha explained that Ms. Gandhi chose Jabalpur as the launching ground for the party’s election campaign because the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, did not pass through the region.
