On Saturday, the Congress said that the Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0 is “under consideration,” with some CWC members demanding that it be carried out from the country’s east to its west.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram claimed that members of the party’s highest decision-making body have asked to organize a “Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0 from east to west” in his remarks after a briefing on the discussions of the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Congress Working Committee (CWC) here.
When asked about planning the second iteration of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said, “That topic is under contemplation.
From September 7, 2022, to January 30, this year, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi traveled on the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
The 136-day march, which covered 4,081 kilometers through 12 states, two union territories, 75 districts, and 76 Lok Sabha seats, according to Congress officials, made a lasting imprint on people’s minds.
Gandhi spoke at 12 public gatherings, more than 100 street corner gatherings, and 13 press conferences throughout the yatra. He had more than 275 scheduled exchanges while walking and more than 100 when sitting.
According to some scholars, Gandhi’s change in image was one of the yatra’s major lessons for the Congress.
Gandhi had traveled more than 4,000 kilometers at this point and had attracted both his admirers and his critics. A cross-section of society, including movie and television stars like Kamal Haasan, Pooja Bhatt, Riya Sen, Swara Bhasker, Rashami Desai, Akanksha Puri, and Amol Palekar, participated in the march.
Other notable individuals, such as former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan and ex-finance secretary Arvind Mayaram, as well as authors and military veterans, such as former Army commander Gen (Retd) Deepak Kapoor and ex-Navy head Admiral (Retd) L Ramdas, also took part in the yatra.
At different times throughout the march, other opposition leaders including Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah of the National Conference, Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP, Aaditya Thackeray, Priyanka Chaturvedi, and Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena, and Supriya Sule of the NCP, marched with Gandhi.
