Balu Dhanorkar, the sole Lok Sabha representative of the Congress party from Maharashtra, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday at a private hospital in the National Capital Region, according to a party leader. Dhanorkar, who was 47 years old, is survived by his wife Pratibha, who is also an MLA, and their two sons.
The Congress leader, Balasaheb Thorat, revealed that Dhanorkar had been admitted to a hospital in Nagpur last week for the treatment of kidney stones. However, due to complications, he was later transferred to New Delhi, where unfortunately he could not overcome his medical condition.
On May 26, Dhanorkar, the Lok Sabha member representing Chandrapur, had undergone treatment for kidney stones at a hospital in Nagpur. On Sunday, he was rushed to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, located near Delhi, due to further complications.
The mortal remains of Dhanorkar will be transported to his hometown, Warora, during the afternoon of Tuesday. The last rites will be conducted on Wednesday morning.
Tragically, Dhanorkar’s father, Narayan Dhanorkar, 80 years old, had passed away in Nagpur on Saturday evening after a prolonged illness. As a result, the MP was unable to attend his father’s final rites, which took place on Sunday.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed his condolences over the death of his fellow Congress MP. In a tweet, he stated, “Sad to learn that our @INCIndia parliamentary colleague, Suresh Narayan Dhanorkar (MP from Chandrapur constituency in Maharashtra) passed away overnight, the second demise of a Congress MP during the 17th Lok Sabha. He was only 47. My condolences to his loved ones. Om Shanti.”
Dhanorkar began his political journey with the Shiv Sena party led by Balasaheb Thackeray in Chandrapur district. In 2014, he won the assembly election but aspired to contest the Lok Sabha election from Chandrapur, a seat traditionally held by the BJP’s Hansraj Ahir. Dhanorkar subsequently joined the Congress party and defeated Ahir in the election. In 2019, his wife also emerged victorious in the Warora-Bhadrawati assembly seat.
