On Saturday morning, after special prayers were offered in mosques and eidgah around the city, Eid-ul-Fitr festivities got underway in Delhi.
Around 6.30 am, a sizable crowd said namaz at the iconic Jama Masjid. Large people attended the special Eid prayers at the Fatehpuri Masjid, Eidgah, and Sunehri Masjid.
After the prayers, everyone greeted one another and joined in the fun. Shopping for the occasion was brisk in the city’s principal marketplaces, notably those around Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk.
On this occasion, Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, and V K Saxena, the lieutenant governor of Delhi, welcomed everyone.
“On this auspicious day of Eid ul Fitr, congratulations to everybody. In a Hindi tweet, Saxena wished that everyone’s life would advance, get richer, and be happier as a result of this holiday of joy, peace, harmony, and blessings.
Kejriwal prayed for unity, harmony, and joy across the nation as well as for India to overtake all other nations as the top power.
On Eid, people visit their neighbours, friends, and relatives and exchange treats like “Sewai”.
Based on the sighting of the crescent moon, which is said to mark the beginning of the Shawwal month in the lunar Islamic calendar, Eid-ul-Fitr is observed on various days across the globe. It signifies the conclusion of Ramadan, a month of fasting.
