Delhi Water Minister Atishi has addressed a letter to the city’s police, requesting protection for the pipelines from possible sabotage attempts, amid a severe water crisis in the nation’s capital. She said that the patrolling team of the Delhi Jal Board discovered evidence of pipeline sabotage at multiple locations. In the meantime, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) started a protest against the AAP government.
“I am writing to request the deployment of police personnel to patrol and protect our major pipelines for the next 15 days to stop miscreants or people with ulterior motives from tampering with water pipelines, which have now become Delhi’s lifelines,” Atishi wrote in a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. Any malfeasance or sabotage at this point will exacerbate Delhi’s already dire water shortage for its citizens.”
She stated that the DJB teams discovered minor damage to the water supply pipelines.
The primary water pipeline that transports water from Sonia Vihar WTP to South Delhi, the South Delhi Rising Mains, experienced a significant leak yesterday, according to our ground patrol team. This was in Garhi Medhu, next to the DTL substation. Our patrolling team discovered that the leak was caused by multiple huge 375 mm bolts and one 12-inch bolt that had been removed from the pipeline. The fact that multiple sizable bolts were broken seems to point to sabotage and foul activity,” the woman asserted.
She asserted that the inability to provide the people of Delhi with a sizable amount of water made the situation worse.
For the next fifteen days, Atishi insisted that the police guard Delhi’s main pipelines.
“I’m writing to ask that police officers be stationed to guard and patrol our main pipelines for the next fifteen days. This is crucial to prevent miscreants or others with bad intentions from interfering with our water pipelines, which are now Delhi’s lifelines. Any malfeasance or sabotage at this point will exacerbate Delhi’s already dire water deficit, the woman continued.
A protest against the Delhi administration over the water issue is being held in Najafgarh by a BJP MP from West Delhi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, and other party members.
“Dwarka RWAs have been calling us and coming in to meet us to complain about the lack of water.” They are unable to use government tankers and must pay a high price for private water tankers. I inspected some pipes today, and they were broken, wasting a lot of water. The Delhi administration is attributing the water scarcity to other state governments, even though their department is the source of the issue. Not out of compassion, but since she is a minister in the Delhi government, I ask Atishi to attend to her department’s demands,” the woman stated.
Today, AAP MLAs went to Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil’s home to ask him to settle the dispute.
“Yesterday, we sent him a note. We made an effort to get in touch with him by WhatsApp, SMS, and letter and requested an appointment. Someone received our letter yesterday, but when we got there today, we learned that he wasn’t at home. It is unknown to us what the truth is. However, we want the central government to step in and assign CR Patil the task of interstate coordination,” AAP MLA Dilip Pandey stated.
For humanitarian reasons, Atishi pleaded with Haryana last week to let more water into the Yamuna. She stated that the lack of raw water was causing a 70 million gallons per day (MGD) shortfall in the nation’s capital.
Due to a scarcity of raw water, Delhi’s regular water output of approximately 1,002 MGD on June 6 decreased to 932 MGD on Friday, the speaker said.
