Since the majority of us spend a lot of time at our desks, it’s critical to address the stressors associated with sedentary work environments. There are easy yoga postures you can do at your desk, so incorporating yoga into your day doesn’t need a mat or an hour-long practice. Extended periods of sitting may cause neck and lower back discomfort, which can negatively impact your general health. These simple desk yoga positions are designed to improve posture, reduce shoulder and back discomfort, and boost productivity.
1. Spinal twists
Fight off neck soreness, a typical side effect of extended screen usage. To ease the stiffness and stress in your neck muscles brought on by prolonged computer usage, gently roll your neck.
2. Chair Pigeon Pose, or Chair Kapotasana
This sitting stance can help you to open up your hips. Make sure your knees are not strained by maintaining a 90-degree angle with one leg over the other. To relieve stress and improve flexibility, stretch, hold for nine or ten breaths, and then switch sides.
3. Spinal twists while seated: Marichyasana Yoga
Reduce the soreness in your calf and lumbar muscles from extended sitting. Lean sideways in your chair and do a 180-degree rotation toward your back to increase flexibility and relieve stress. Ten to fifteen repetitions each side.
4. The Crescent Moon, Seated
While seated, straighten your back and posture. Breathe deeply, extend your fingers, and join your hands over your head. For up to fifteen sets, repeat on both sides to offset the effects of extended sitting.
5. Healing Position
This reviving stance is a great way to relieve work-related stress. Lay your arms across the desk, place your feet flat on the floor, and rest your head on them. In this healing position, taking deep breaths may help you release tension and rejuvenate for a new beginning.
Incorporate these easy desk yoga postures into your practice to counteract the harmful effects of extended sitting. Give yourself a time to feel more energised, release tense muscles and joints, and feel better overall.
