Young batsman Dhruv Jurel claimed his playing philosophy is to bat and let other things take care of itself after propelling Rajasthan Royals above the 200-run barrier with his scorching 15-ball 34 and contributing significantly to a 34-run win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
In the first half of IPL 2023, Jurel had a few scorching innings, and on Thursday at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, he hit three fours and two sixes in his brief cameo, giving Rajasthan much-needed impetus in the dying stages of their innings.
“I’m quite thrilled and satisfied that we won the game. We really needed this victory. To bat, and the rest will take care of itself, is my motto. In the post-game press conference, he stated, “I just played the situation and I’ve done three to four hours of batting every day.
Jurel also provided some insight into his batting strategy, stating that he hopes to use the remaining balls in the innings to attempt to alter the outcome of the game in his side’s benefit.
“I ensure that my batting is producing something. I practise at this location since the management gave it to me.
“I feel like it doesn’t matter whether I’m scoring runs or having less balls; I have to score huge runs. I couldn’t expect myself to do something I haven’t done in my batting practise because I have to hit six for every ball since I’ve done it so often,’ he said.
Rajasthan entered the game coming off losses to the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Jurel believed that the losses were caused by the team’s inability to capitalise in crucial situations.
“I don’t believe the team is lacking in anything. We have several circumstances, and every game is unique. In those circumstances, we occasionally fall short and lose. But what matters is that we grow from it and do better in subsequent games,” he said.
M.S. Dhoni, captain of Chennai, made a bullseye throw that caused Jurel to be run out. However, he made the decision to see the bright side and considered it a blessing that he was on the same pitch as the illustrious wicketkeeper-batter.
“I have the good fortune to play on the same pitch as MS Dhoni. I’ve been dreaming of it ever since I was a kid as I saw him represent the country. I am driven rather than feeling under pressure. I’m satisfied with the fact that he is observing me from behind.
Rajasthan, who now sit atop the standings, will now compete against the five-time champion Mumbai Indians on Sunday night at the Wankhede Stadium.
