The first list of candidates for the Karnataka assembly elections was released by the Congress party on Saturday.
The initial list of 124 candidates includes the names of former chief minister Siddaramaiah and state party president DK Shivakumar.
Siddaramaiah will run from the Kanakapura district, while DK Shivakumar will run from the Varuna district.
Siddaramaiah had previously indicated interest in running for office from the Kolar seat, but the Congress High Command ordered him to abandon the idea after disputes amongst the party’s local leaders in the district. M Roopakala, a candidate for the party in the Kolar Gold Field district, is running.
Earlier, on March 6, DK Shivakumar praised his party’s chances in the approaching elections and said that the incumbent BJP would not be able to win more than 65 seats.
According to Shivakumar, this is what everyone in his state—including farmers—is saying.
“We have virtually completed 75% of the seat assignments. Soon after we submit the names of applicants for the high command’s consideration, a decision will be made on all seats, he said.
Basavraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, predicted that the BJP will win the Assembly elections in an exclusive interview with ANI on March 2.
On Congress’ chances in the elections, Bommai said that the party was putting in a valiant effort but would prevail due to its poor record while in office. The CM said that the Congress achieved nothing for the people during its time in office and instead tried to polarize society.
“They took no action to help the SCs and STs. They are not in the government as a result. They are now attempting to seize control by making unattainable promises. They claim to be giving each family Rs 2,000, but in order to do so, they need Rs 24,000 thousand billions. How will they raise such a big sum? Bommai said earlier this month that the Congress is making such bogus promises because they are anxious to win the elections.
