According to police reports on Monday, there was an encounter between District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans and Naxals in the Bheji area of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh, resulting in the deaths of two Naxalites. Superintendent of Police Sunil Sharma is currently overseeing a search operation in the area. Earlier on May 1, Naxals set fire to two tipper trucks engaged in construction work in the Ittapara area of Sukma district. Fortunately, three labourers were safely rescued and taken to the Phulbagdi police station. On April 26, an improvised explosive device (IED) blast carried out by Maoists killed 10 policemen and a civilian driver in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district. The attack took place in Aranpur, with the security personnel travelling in a rented mini-goods van. The slain security personnel belonged to DRG, a group mostly composed of local tribals trained to combat Maoists. The IED blast occurred while the Jawans were returning from the area, leaving a huge crater on the road and resulting in the loss of many lives.
