Police said on Sunday that a lady was reportedly harassed by four other family members in addition to being raped by her father-in-law in the eastern neighborhood of Ghatkopar.
According to an official, the police on Saturday opened an investigation based on a complaint and charged the lady’s father-in-law with rape under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code as well as four other family members who they claim harassed the woman for dowry.
In her complaint, the lady claims that her father-in-law broke into her room two weeks ago when she was alone herself and sexually assaulted her.
She has also said that from February 2022 until June of this year, her in-laws physically and emotionally abused her, the official added.
He stated that no arrests have been made in the investigation to yet.
