While Eid al-Adha celebration planning is well underway elsewhere, thousands of Assamese residents in the flood-stricken Barpeta region are concerned.
The floods in the Barpeta region have impacted more than 67,000 people from 93 communities. The floods, according to the residents of as many as 15 villages in the lower Assam district’s Bhella region, would prevent them from celebrating Eid al-Adha this year.
Up to 15-20 villages are damaged by the water, according to Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Shilla village close to the Bhella region.
“People are dealing with several issues. Our Eidgah Maidan was flooded, and we are quite concerned about this, said Rafiqul Islam.
Another flood-affected villager, Rakibul Islam, said that they would not be able to celebrate Eid because of the water.
“We’ll have to find a new location to celebrate Eid. Our Eidgah is filled with water, according to Rakibul Islam.
Gulab Ali said that the flooding is to blame for the growing costs of veggies and other goods.
Gulab Ali said that many individuals were still staying in relief camps since their homes were still submerged in floodwater.
People are having a lot of troubles, according to Nazrul Bhuyan.
“We are unsure on how to observe Eid. Vegetables and other goods are becoming excessively expensive, according to Nazrul Bhuyan.
People are dealing with several issues, according to Najeeb Ali Ahmed, a teacher in the Bhella neighbourhood.
We won’t be able to celebrate Eid this year due to the water. This is something that worries us much, said Naeeb Ali Ahmed.
225 hectares of crops in the Barpeta district are now submerged, according to a report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Six people have perished in the state during the last 48 hours, including three children who drowned in floodwaters in the region.
