Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, said on Saturday that the state was committed to giving the Maratha community reservations and he urged people to maintain peace.
The chief minister of Maharashtra, Shinde, commented on the Jalna event, saying, “In November 2014, the coalition government, led by the then-chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, declared the Maratha reservation. The Maratha Reservation judgment made by the government was also affirmed by the High Court. The Supreme Court, however, reached a different conclusion. Everyone is aware that someone’s irresponsibility is the cause of this. The Maratha Reservation dispute is now pending in court. The state’s administration is ready to litigate this matter in court…The state administration is working to find solutions to some of the problems.
The Chief Minister has urged citizens to exercise caution around anyone looking to use the situation for political gain.
“I appeal to the Maratha community,” he continued, “who have so far expressed their feelings very sensibly and calmly, with folded hands, to exercise restraint and not take the law into their own hands.”
The occurrence of the lathi-charge during the protest in Jalna district is really regrettable, CM Shinde stated.
“I spoke with Jarange Patil, the movement’s leader,” CM Shinde said. Meetings outlining their requests were also conducted under my leadership. The administration was responding to their requests by taking action. But even after that, the movement began. Jarange Patil had refused my appeal to stop the protest, but it persisted.
The Collector and SP went there because they were concerned about Jarange Patil’s health since it had become worse throughout the protest period, the CM remarked.
“They demanded that Jarange Patil be allowed to check into the hospital. But at that moment, this awful tragedy had place. In addition, I’ve asked for a high-level investigation of the situation. Additionally, I’ve instructed the government to pay for the treatment of all those hurt in this tragedy, the CM said.
In Jalna earlier on Friday, there was a fight between the police and protestors calling for reservations for the Marathas. To scatter the demonstrators, police used lathi charges.
