After aiding Paris Saint-Germain in capturing a record 11th French championship, Kylian Mbappe was chosen as the Ligue 1 player of the season for the fourth time in a row on Sunday.
The France international is on track to finish as the division’s leading scorer for a sixth consecutive season after scoring 28 goals in the league this term.
“It’s a joy to add my name to the annals of the league; I always wanted to win. But even with my high expectations, I didn’t anticipate winning so swiftly,” Mbappe remarked after accepting his trophy.
Mbappe, who has scored 40 goals so far this season, turned down a three-year deal from Real Madrid at the conclusion of the last campaign.
The 24-year-old’s contract will expire next year unless he exercises an option to extend it until 2025, according to reports.
Mbappe said when asked about his future at the awards show, “I will be here again next season.”
He surpasses Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who earned the honor three times with PSG, to become the first four-time winner of a trophy given for the first time in 1994.
After guiding Lens to a second-place finish and its first appearance in the Champions League in twenty years, Franck Haise was voted coach of the season.
Brice Samba, the goalie for Lens, was also recognized, while Nuno Mendes, the left defender for Paris Saint-Germain, was named the best young player.
Along with Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Achraf Hakimi, he was one of four PSG players to make the team of the season.
