Gary Lineker lost his voice after his return to the screen and will not be hosting the BBC’s FA Cup broadcast on Sunday.
A week after being removed off air due to an impartiality dispute, the former England striker returned to his presenting duties for live coverage of Manchester City’s 6-0 hammering of Burnley on Saturday.
Lineker received criticism for equating the announcement of the UK government’s new immigration strategy with Nazi Germany’s propaganda.
Yet when he was fired, the BBC’s sports coverage descended into chaos as presenters, analysts, and pundits refused to do their jobs out of support for Lineker.
On Monday, the two parties announced that they had come to an understanding in which Lineker would return to television while the company began an independent assessment of its social media policies.
It’s amazing to be here, Lineker said as he introduced live coverage from the Etihad Stadium. Lineker is the highest-paid broadcaster for the BBC.
Nevertheless, the BBC announced on Sunday that owing to sickness, he will not be presenting Brighton’s quarterfinal matchup with fourth-tier Grimsby.
The line-up for today’s live FA Cup coverage of Brighton vs. Grimsby on BBC One has changed due to sickness, BBC Sport tweeted.
“As yesterday’s viewers undoubtedly noted, Gary Lineker was having vocal problems, and sadly, things got worse over night. Instead, Alex Scott will serve as the host.
One of the presenters who chose not to work last weekend in solidarity of Lineker was the former England women’s international Scott.
