Authorities have ordered the closure of educational institutions and banks on that day, suspended mobile Internet and bulk SMS services, and imposed prohibitory orders in the communally sensitive district in response to the VHP’s claim that Hindu groups would proceed with its procession in Haryana’s Nuh on Monday.
According to Shatrujeet Kapur, director general of police for Haryana, the government has refused permission for the yatra because of a G20 Sherpa Group conference slated to take place in Nuh from September 3–7 and to maintain peace and order after the incident on July 31.
Kapur presided over a conference with top officials of surrounding states via videoconferencing in response to the yatra call and asked for a concerted effort to adequately handle the crisis.
Senior police officials from Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh were present at the conference.
To prevent the propagation of rumors on social media before or during Monday’s march, the authorities decided to block mobile Internet from August 26 to August 28.
Dhirendra Khadgata, deputy commissioner, said nothing.
