Today, May 3, the Bombay High Court will rule on a PIL contesting the 75% JEE Main 2023 eligibility requirements. On May 1, 2023, Chief Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice S V Marne of the Bombay High Court began hearing this case. Today, the decision about whether a relaxation may be given will be made.
To qualify for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFT, students must get a minimum of 75% in their Class 12 board examinations according to the JEE Main and JEE Advanced eligibility requirements for 2023. According to the petition, it is unfair to the kids since it does not accurately represent their skills.
Students have contested the qualifying requirements since occasionally they get excellent JEE Main scores but fall short of the required 75% in board examinations, depriving them of a fair opportunity. In 2017–18, the regulation establishing the 75% qualifying threshold was adopted. Nevertheless, it was briefly put on hold throughout the Covid pandemic.
The students who registered for JEE Main 2023 would profit if the Bombay High Court removes the JEE Main 75% eligibility requirement since they will only be admitted based on their JEE Main results.
The eligibility requirement of a least 75 percent in boards for admission to NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and GFTIs was cited in an affidavit submitted by the National Testing Agency. NTA, who is not the responsible authority for the JEE Advanced 2023 eligibility requirements, chose not to comment on them.
On April 24, a bench of Acting Chief Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice S V Marne of the Bombay High Court heard the argument brought by Attorney Anubha Srivastava Sahai.
