Recently, it has been widely reported in the media that the Railways have changed the manner that seats are assigned after a train leaves the station. According to new regulations, it was widely reported that the Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) had the power to assign a seat belonging to a certain passenger to another if they did not arrive at the seat within 10 minutes of the train departing the station. The seat will be given to someone else once the train stops two stations away from the station where the passenger was supposed to embark, according to a previous report. Social media was buzzing with this news, but many others said it was false, and there was general uncertainty and anarchy. However, Yogesh Baweja, Director General (DG), PIB Rail, was the person News18’s Special Correspondent Sharad Pandey spoke to in order to learn the truth.
Yogesh Baweja said that the rumors were untrue and that it would not be possible to assign a seat to a different person after ten minutes. He continued by asserting that the Hand Held Terminal, a notebook that has recently been provided to all TTEs, is to blame for the misperception over the 10-minute discourse. The presence of a passenger was previously recorded on a sheet by TTE using PAN. This attendance is now recorded online using the portable device. This stipulates that the TTE must alert the host of your arrival to your seat within 10 minutes of it. If you don’t take a seat after ten minutes, someone else may. The spokesperson claims that there is no relationship between this and the train leaving the station.
There is no need to fear since, in the majority of situations, a TTE arrives at the seat approximately 30 minutes after the train leaves the station. He said that a passenger would have 30 minutes and an additional 10 minutes before the seat may be assigned to someone else.
