Diverse regions of the globe are prepared to witness the first solar eclipse of 2023, also known as the surya grahan, today. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between Earth and the Sun, completely or partially blocking the Sun’s image for observers on Earth. This solar eclipse, also known as the “Rare Hybrid Solar Eclipse” and the “Ningaloo Eclipse,” will be visible from all around the world, including Australia.The first lunar eclipse will be observed on May 5th, followed by the second on October 29th.
In specifically for expectant women, hinduism has several beliefs, such as the ban on leaving the home during the surya grahan. Additionally, it was advised that pregnant women avoid being outside during the surya grahan since, in accordance with traditional beliefs, it is really harmful to them. Therefore, all pregnant women must abide by the following dos and don’ts:
1. Pregnant women should avoid sleeping during solar eclipses wherever feasible.

2. Direct or indirect viewing of the solar eclipse by a pregnant woman is not advised due to the risk to her eyes and, therefore, to her overall health.
3. It is not advisable to wear bracelets, pins, or other metallic jewellery.
4. Attempt meditation and mantra recitation to unwind your body and mind during the solar eclipse.
5. According to traditional legends, taking a bath just after the sun eclipse is auspicious.
6. According to certain customs, women must sit on a bed made of Durva grass while reciting the Santana Gopala Mantra.
7. They shouldn’t use needles, scissors, knives, etc. since it’s believed that doing so might physically harm the developing infant.
8. Expectant women should remain inside during a solar eclipse; not even the shadow of the eclipse should come in touch with the foetus.
9. Cover the windows and doors in your house with curtains or keep them closed.
10. It’s best to avoid eating during an eclipse, but if you are hungry, it’s also a good idea to consume well cleaned fruits.
11. When the eclipse is occurring, avoid using anything sharp.
12. Avoid eating or drinking during the Surya Grahan.
13. Steer clear of wearing metal, particularly jewellery, sari pins, tightening pins, and hairpins.
