The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team may have dominated the Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2023 season opening on Sunday, but they also had a serious injury scare at the start of the competition. Reece Topley, an English sprinter, hurt his shoulder while playing in Bengaluru.
Topley dove for the ball during the eighth over of the MI innings in an effort to catch it. Nevertheless, his attempt was a complete failure since he landed awkwardly on the ball and seemed to roll his shoulder. The bowler seemed to be in excruciating agony, and the support personnel and physio raced to assess his condition. In the end, he left the field and never came back.
Topley’s injury is still not fully understood, but RCB wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has provided a crucial update. After the convincing victory, the seasoned Indian player revealed on JioCinema that Topley’s injury seemed severe and that he had been rushed for scans.
“It did pop out, but the shoulder went right back in. I believe he had a scan while watching the game. He doesn’t seem to be in as much agony as we anticipated. After the game, Karthik stated, “We’ll just have to wait and see.
Topley shocked five-time IPL winners MI by dismissing all-rounder Cameron Green in the fourth over before leaving the field. The right-arm quick bowled two overs, with a strike rate of one for fourteen.
In the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, MI used Tilak Varma’s stroke-filled undefeated half-century to record a respectable 171 for seven. Varma helped MI achieve a respectable total after being sent in to bat with an unbeaten 84 off 46 balls that included nine boundaries and four sixes.
Later, to lead RCB to an eight-wicket victory, Virat Kohli and RCB captain Faf du Plessis both scored aggressive half-centuries. In order to lay the groundwork for the chase, which RCB completed in 16.2 overs, du Plessis scored 73 off 43 balls as Kohli continued to bat unbeaten at 82 off 49 balls.
