In Maharashtra’s Nashik district, cow vigilantes thrashed one guy to death and wounded another.
According to accounts, the vigilante gang committed the heinous crime based only on a simple suspicion of bringing beef into Nashik illegally.
Afan Ansari, a 32-year-old man from Mumbai’s Kurla neighbourhood, and his assistant Nasir Sheikh were carrying meat in a vehicle when they were reportedly stopped and beaten by cow vigilantes, according to an NDTV story.
The victims were eventually taken to a hospital, where one of them reportedly passed away while receiving care.
“When we arrived at the scene, the automobile was damaged. The wounded males were in the vehicle, and we took them there before one of them passed away, according to a police officer mentioned in an NDTV article.
Ten persons have so far been held in connection with the investigation, it further said.
According to reports, the police have opened a case of murder and rioting.
They said, “The lab analysis will reveal whether they were in fact smuggling meat or not.
Eight years after the Bombay High Court confirmed the legality of the Act prohibiting cattle slaughter, the Maharashtra government previously accepted a proposal to establish a commission to carry out the legislation.
The court ruled that any vehicle used to export a cow, bull, or bullock might be entered, stopped, searched, and impounded by a competent authority.
Additionally, it maintained the ban on shipping meat for consumption after slaughter.
