October domestic air passenger traffic in the nation increased by about 11% annually to 1.26 crore, as per official statistics that was made public on Thursday.
In October 2022, there were 1.14 crore passengers, while in September of this year, there were 1.22 crore passengers.
According to statistics made public by aviation regulator DGCA, IndiGo transported 79.07 lakh passengers in October, accounting for a 62.6% share of the domestic market. The market share was less than the 63.4% recorded in September.
Air India’s domestic market share increased to 10.5% last month from 9.8% in September, while Vistara and AirAsia India (formerly known as AIX Connect) saw its shares fall to 9.7% and 6.6%, respectively, in October.
The market share of SpiceJet increased from 4.4% in September to 5% in October, while Akasa Air’s share stayed at 4.2%.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), “passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-October 2023 were 1,254.98 lakhs as opposed to 988.31 lakhs during the corresponding period of previous year, thereby registering annual growth of 26.98 per cent and monthly growth of 10.78 per cent.”
The data shows that in October, scheduled airlines refused to board as many as 587 people.
Last month, 1,78,227 passengers experienced aircraft delays and 30,307 passengers experienced flight cancellations.
