Former President Donald Trump is under fire for allegedly ordering a staff member to erase video footage taken at his Florida resort in an attempt to thwart inquiries into secret papers. On Thursday, additional accusations against Trump and the addition of a second defendant were included in an amended grand jury indictment.
A representative for President Trump slammed the fresh allegations, calling them “nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt” by the Biden administration “to harass President Trump and those around him” and to affect the 2024 presidential election.
According to court papers, a third defendant has also been accused in the Florida case involving the sensitive materials along with former President Donald Trump and his valet. The accusations against the person, known as Carlos De Oliveira in the court file, were not made public right away on Thursday.
Trump and his valet Walt Nauta were accused last month of trying to conceal sensitive papers at his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, from federal investigators who were requesting them back, according to a 38-count indictment by Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith.
After leaving the White House in January 2021, Trump brought the documents to the Palm Beach compound. Each man has entered a not-guilty plea.
