Speaking to the Indian community in this country, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that India and Guyana are forming a relationship appropriate for the needs of the modern day.
In addition, Jaishankar, who is on his first visit to Guyana, informed the Indian community of his conversations with Guyanese officials and their shared determination to raise the level of their bilateral ties.
“It was a pleasure to speak with the Indian community in Guyana this evening. We appreciate the participation of Speaker Manzoor Nadir and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo. After speaking to the diaspora on Sunday, he tweeted, “Conveyed that we are establishing a relationship that is suited for purpose for the present period.
He had met Guyanese service officials earlier in the day who had received training in India.
Jaishankar attended the launching of the Indian-built ferry MV MA Lisha with President of Guyana Irfaan Ali.
“MA Lisha is Arabic for friend. Its concrete manifestation is the ferry built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata. Within Guyana, this boat would greatly improve connectivity. It will provide remote hinterlands economic opportunity and mobility, he added.
“I saw the moving memorial commemorating the arrival of the Indians in Berbice, Guyana. I expressed to the diaspora my respect for their efforts and achievements. Thank you Charles Ramson Jr., Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, for participating,” he said in a subsequent tweet.
At Mahatma Gandhi’s tomb, Jaishankar paid respects and planted a tree in honour of the friendship between India and Guyana.
Gandhiji’s message of climate awareness, according to him, is ageless and global.
Jaishankar congratulated Minister of Human Services Vindhya Vasini Persaud for participating in the morning prayers with the diaspora at the Ram Krishna Dharmik Mandir in this city.
He stated, “I’m so happy to see how traditions, heritage, and customs are being upheld.”
Together with his Jamaican colleague Kaminaj Smith, Jaishankar co-chaired the fourth India-CARICOM ministerial meeting on Friday in Georgetown.
He had a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday before leaving on a nine-day tour to Guyana, Panama, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic on Friday. This was his first travel to these nations as the foreign affairs minister.
