The Indian cricket team, captained by Jasprit Bumrah, beat Ireland by 33 runs to win the three-match T20I series and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the overall series. India was pushed all the way by Ireland after winning the first match by 2 runs on Friday using the DLS technique, but the Men in Blue had just enough left in the tank to defeat a determined home team in Dublin on Sunday.
Paul Stirling, the captain of Ireland, decided to bowl first after winning the toss. The Men in Blue were 34/2 when Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma abruptly left the team, giving India a difficult start.
In order to steady the ship, Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad put together a 71-run partnership. Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube then led India to a respectable score of 185/5.
Gaikwad hit 58, Rinku scored 38 in his first innings for India, and then the Irish batters were held to 152/8 thanks to the spectacular bowling of India’s skipper Bumrah, Ravi Bishnoi, and Prasidh Krishna.
Despite the fact that former Irish captain Andrew Balbirnie scored 72 runs in 51 balls, including five boundaries and four maximums, Arshdeep Singh gave India a critical breakthrough and stunned the visitors with a knockout blow.
Stirling’s team lost their skipper on a duck while attempting to score 186 runs to stay alive in the series. Lorcan Tucker then failed to score again and failed to open his account. The two wickets were taken by Prasidh Krishna, shocking the Irish audience.
The next to go was Harry Tector, and before George Dockrell and Balbirnie joined forces, Curtis Campher and Harry Tector both performed poorly. The first hitter was sent home because of a mix-up between the other two batters.
Before Arshdeep persuaded the former Ireland captain to give up a leading edge, Balbirnie kept improving, and Sanju Samson took care of the rest. Late in the match, Mark Adair unleashed a few ferocious hits to get his team as near as they could to the intimidating total.
Earlier, Gaikwad scored a fifty and contributed 40 runs to the cause, giving him his highest T20I total of his career (58). Rinku’s 38-run surge earned him the Player of the Match honor.
