The leaders of 28 opposition parties gathered on Thursday in Mumbai under the auspices of the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). The Opposition INDIA group reviewed their plan of attack against the Narendra Modi-led BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections at the conference.
After the Center asked for a five-day special Parliament session, they decided to finalize a seat-sharing agreement by September 30 amid the bustle of early votes. According to earlier reports, only the meeting’s format, campaign strategy, slogans, and logo would be decided upon over the two days in Mumbai. The decision about the seat-sharing agreement would be postponed until the next meeting.
The special session debate dominated the INDIA bloc meeting. Many of those opposed to the move said they had not received formal notice of the session’s agenda.
The administration unexpectedly summoned a special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22 earlier yesterday. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s official statement on X, previously Twitter, did not include the session’s agenda.
Top opposition figures, including Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal, Nitish Kumar of Bihar, and Akhilesh Yadav of former Uttar Pradesh, attended the meeting, along with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior Congressmen Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
On the first day of the conference, these leaders merely spoke about their polling approach and sought to come to an agreement on who would head the bloc. One of the front-runners is reportedly Congress President Kharge. A new theme song and logo were also approved for the elections.
The choices reached during the Mumbai meeting will, however, be formally announced on Friday.
