The well-known digital payment software PhonePe, which is supported by Walmart, has introduced its own software Store named the “Indus Appstore.” This action allegedly aims to break Google’s hold on the Android app distribution market via its Play Store.
Zero commission on in-app purchases and app sales would be the main inducement for Android developers to publish on the Indus Appstore. In contrast, Google and Apple levy a 15–30% developer commission on all in-app purchases and app sales.Additionally, for the first year, PhonePe won’t charge app creators a listing fee; but, after that, there will be a “nominal” price. A further statement from PhonePe said, “Developers will be free to integrate any payment gateway of their choice inside their own apps.”
The platform is now open for developers to submit their applications. The Indus Appstore will also support 12 Indian languages and include a phone number-based login mechanism for user convenience, with a stronger emphasis on operating in India.
“India is poised to have over 1 billion smartphone users by 2026, offering us a massive opportunity to build a new-age, localized Android app store,” stated Akash Dongre, CPO & Co-Founder, Indus Appstore, in regards to the launch. Despite having such a large consumer market, app developers have always been compelled to distribute their products via just one app shop, Google Playstore.
Indus Appstore aims to provide app developers a reliable substitute for the Google Playstore that is more tailored to their region and provides better app discovery and user engagement, he said. We urge all developers to submit their apps to the Made-in-India app store today as we officially launch the Indus Appstore Developer Platform.
Additional advantages of using the Indus App Store include AI-powered real-time monitoring of app vitals during the introduction of a new version as well as real-time analytics, in-depth knowledge of market trends, and competition analysis to assist developers in adopting best practices.
