Arjun Tendulkar, a left-arm bowler who recently suffered an injury, will be evaluated during a practice game on Wednesday, according to Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher, who thinks he will be eligible for selection.
“Arjun recently suffered an injury. It would be nice if he is available for selection after our assessment of him tonight, Boucher remarked at a news conference on Wednesday in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma, the franchise captain, was present at the conference as well.
Arjun, the son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and former captain of the Mumbai Indians, was acquired by the team before to the 2021 Indian Premier League season (IPL). Nevertheless, he was injured that year and was unable to play in the competition. Even though there was a chance to play Arjun after the Mumbai Indians were eliminated from the playoff race in the 2022 edition, he did not. The franchise came under fire last year for continuing to deny Arjun his debut.
Nonetheless, according to Boucher, the team plans to make investments in the future and there will be a few openings in the lineup for younger players. “Now is the time for the kids to arrive. There are (a few) locations where juniors may enter. The IPL is a huge event and a huge chance for young boys to participate, according to the former South African wicketkeeper-batsman.
Just seven first-class, seven List A, and nine T20 matches has Arjun played throughout his career. He has scored 268 runs overall and got 32 wickets.
Shane Bond, the bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians, had previously said that Arjun still needed to put in a lot of effort to win a spot in the starting lineup for the five-time IPL champion team.
He still has work to do. Making the squad is one thing when you play for a side like Mumbai, but getting into the starting Eleven is another. He still has to put in a lot of effort and grow. Giving everyone a game when you play at this level is tricky since you also have to earn your position. Before joining the squad, Arjun has to improve his batting and fielding. In an interview with Sportskeeda, Bond expressed his hope that the player may continue to improve and secure a position on the squad.
