Issy Wong, a pacer for the Mumbai Indians, described the experience as “surreal” after scoring the first hat-trick of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Friday at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium to help her club “eliminate” UP Warriorz.
It has been a bit of a whirlwind over the last few of weeks, so everything seems a little strange. Put in some effort in the gym over the last couple of years, and it was nice to enjoy the results, said the 20-year-old England pacer.
It swung while illuminated. Even in the latter innings, you may continue to swing by using the square. We were aware that if we took care of the ball, we could make it swing,” she said.
In a row, she delivered to Kiran Navgire, Simran Sheikh, and Sophie Ecclestone, ending the UP Warriorz innings. While Navgire (43 off 27 balls) was threatening to mount a comeback after the UP Warriorz had lost a few fast wickets, Wong’s triple strikes could not have come at a better time. Alyssa Healy, the veteran UP Warriorz captain, had already been fired by Wong. Wong bowled an astounding 4-0-15-4 towards the conclusion of the game, which was the key factor in the UP Warriorz’s collapse for only 110 runs while chasing 183.
“I was simply trying to smash the stumps since Soph Ecclestone beat me the previous time,” I said. Wong explained how she had planned her hat-trick. “I did not want to land in her location,” she added.
Despite being the victim of Wong’s hat-trick, Ecclestone, a colleague of Wong’s in England, was pleased for her. She said, “Well bowled,” adding that she is a nice friend and a talented cricket player. You know each other well, so it’s a little more thrilling,” Wong added.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, also lavished admiration on Wong. Harmanpreet said, “She was always there and really enthusiastic. She is always thrilled to bowl.”
According to Harmanpreet, the Mumbai Indians’ good attack gave them “confidence that anybody could take wickets” during the Eliminator triumph. Nat Sciver-Brunt, an all-around player representing England, was named “Player of the Match” for her spectacular 38-ball 72 and 1/21. Harmanpreet praised Sciver-Brunt, saying, “She is someone who can lead us through in any game, I am delighted she accomplished it tonight.”
“There are a lot of young ladies here that want to excel in fielding as well. When we speak to them, they always listen to us and have a good attitude, Harmapreet said of her team’s overall performance.
The Mumbai Indians had won five straight games and had only lost twice in the whole competition. The win against UOP Warriorz sets up an exciting final game on Sunday against Delhi Capitals.
