Officials announced on Saturday that two more pilgrims had passed away, bringing the total number of fatalities from this year’s pilgrimage to 36 in the south Kashmir Himalayas.
The two pilgrims were Rajasthani nationals.
They have been identified as Mangi Lal and Phateh Lal Manaria, who passed away in the Baltal base camp and the holy cave, respectively. The authorities said they were 60 years old.
They stated that while Lal’s cause of death was being determined, Manaria passed away from cardiac arrest.
36 people have died so far this year on the yatra, including these two new fatalities.
Among Amarnath pilgrims and the security personnel stationed there, cardiac collapse brought on by low oxygen concentration at high elevations is one of the most frequent causes of mortality.
Over three lakh devotees have already come to the underground sanctuary to see the ice lingam sculpture.
From the twin trails of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district, the 62-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-meter-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas began on July 1. On August 31, the yatra is supposed to come to an end.
