Jasprit Bumrah, an India bowler and interim captain, made a successful comeback to international cricket after surgery for a back ailment. The last edition of the three-match T20I series between India and Ireland was called off on Wednesday without a ball being thrown, giving India a 2-0 victory.
Bumrah won the Player of the Series title after taking four wickets at an average of 9.75 in the series, outperforming his fellow countrymen Ravi Bishnoi and Prasidh Krishna, who each took four wickets.
Prior to the important Asia Cup match against Pakistan on September 2, the 29-year-old said he is “all good” and has “no complaints” about his body. He also offered an update on his fitness.
“I’m excited to play some cricket again. When you’re waiting for a game to start, it’s annoying. Did not anticipate this since the morning weather was perfect. Everyone was really excited and willing to lead the side, and it was an honor. Anyone would be happy to take the helm whenever they had the chance. You always desire responsibilities as a cricketer. All OK, no concerns (about his fitness),” Bumrah said after Wednesday’s postponed third T20I.
After being out of the team for more than 11 months due to injury, Bumrah jokedly corrected Alan Wilkins, “Not one year (out of the team), 10-11 months.” When players are so certain and direct me, it makes my work simpler.
Paul Stirling, the captain of Ireland, said that despite playing some brilliant cricket, his side was unable to win the series.
Simply areas of solid cricket from us. There are many benefits, but it’s important to complete those games. Hopefully, we’ll apply what we’ve learned. It was fantastic to have India visit and perform in front of supportive audiences. We could have used some new faces tonight to make the crowd happy. The following nine to ten months are already being built up, according to Stirling.
