Judge Samir Dave of the Gujarat High Court withdrew on Thursday from hearing the regular bail request of an Oreva Group manager who was imprisoned for his suspected involvement in the collapse of the Morbi bridge last year, which resulted in the deaths of 135 people.

When the bridge, which Oreva Group maintained and managed, fell days after it had been reopened after repairs, up to 135 people were killed and 56 seriously wounded.
Notably, Justice Dave recently granted ordinary bail for the five defendants in the case—two ticket takers and three security officers—who the business had stationed on the bridge.
The managing director of the Oreva Group, Jaysukh Patel, company managers Dipak Parekh and Dinesh Dave, and subcontractors Prakash Parmar and Devang Parmar, who were employed by the business to complete repairs on the more than 100-year-old structure, are all still in jail in connection with the case
