The Karnataka government has chosen to establish a distinct secretariat to oversee the execution of welfare initiatives for Scheduled Tribes, according to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Speaking at Valmiki Jayanti, he had earlier delivered the Maharshi Valmiki Awards and opened the Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti event, which was held on Saturday at Vidhana Soudha’s Banquet Hall.
“In the Belagavi session of our previous term, it was decided to provide funds to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes based on their numbers. Thus, more money might be allocated to the TSP and SCSP programs. Prior to now, these initiatives only awarded 6,000 awards. However, this sum was between 6,000 and 30,000 crore during our previous tenure, the CM said.
“This sum was not increased by the previous administration. In this year’s budget, our government has set out Rs 34 thousand crore for these categories. The CM further said that grant has been set aside.
Seven percent of the state’s population falls into the ST group, while 17.1% of all residents are SC members. CM was told that 24.1% of the population falls under the SC and ST categories based on the results of the 2011 census.
Karnataka has the distinction of being the first state to enact legislation designating a specific grant for the welfare of SC/ST categories based on this population, according to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
“This legislation cannot be changed by any administration. Following the passage of this legislation, our government set aside a total of Rs 88 thousand crores for SC/ST citizens between 2013 and 2018. For a population this big, the grant is required by the state,” the CM said.
