MUMBAI: Due to proper planning of monsoon works, the Konkan railway has not been disrupted due to heavy rains in the last ten years. Konkan Railway has completed the planning of pre-monsoon works in the same way this year too. 673 trained railway employees have been appointed to prevent untoward incidents during monsoons.
Konkan Railway has issued instructions to all loco pilots to run trains at a safe speed of 40 kmph to avoid accidents due to heavy rains in the ghats. Employees working in the security department of railway transport have been given mobile phones to maintain uninterrupted contact with the control room and stations.
Mail-Express locopilots and guards have been provided with walkie-talkies. An Emergency Communication Center (EMC) has been set up at a distance of one kilometer to provide information in case of emergency. The conversion of all major signals to LED will make the signals more visible in fog.

– Belapur, Ratnagiri, Margaon
– Will continue for 24 hours
Monsoon schedule will be implemented from June 10 to October 31. Due to this, there will be changes in the timings of some trains. Automatic measuring rain gauges have been commissioned at nine stations namely Mangaon, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Vilavede, Kankavali, Margaon, Karwar, Bhatkal and Udupi.
Flood warning system
If the rivers in Konkan cross the danger level, the information will be received in the Konkan Railway Control Room. Such flood warning
system has been implemented at three places.
– Black River (Mangaon and Veer)
– River Savitri (Veera and Saape Vamane)
– Vashti River (Chiplun and Kamthe)
A wind speed system has been commissioned in Panvel to measure the wind speed between Ratnagiri and Niwasar. Wind turbines have been commissioned at Mandvi bridge for Thivim and Karmali, Zuari bridge for Karmali and Verna, Sharawati bridge for Hona and Manki. If the wind speed increases, the control room will get the information about it immediately.
