According to authorities, around 1,000 residents in Maharashtra’s Nanded district’s Biloli tehsil have been relocated to safer areas after 12 villages experienced flooding due to Friday’s torrential rains.
A district administration official claimed that rescue teams made up of employees of the revenue department and others began the rescue operation on Thursday evening and lasted until late at night.
“Nearly 1,000 villagers were relocated to safety, including those in Harnali, Machnur, Biloli, Golegaon, Aarali, Kasarali, Belkoni, Kundalwadi, and Ganjgaon. Following showers, there was an abrupt rise in the water level in these settlements, which led to a flood-like scenario,” he stated.
As water reached fields and communities in these areas, he said, people were relocated. According to the official, the rescued persons were provided with temporary housing at adjacent Zilla Parishad-run schools or homes situated in high-lying regions. According to him, other locals also assisted to the rescue effort.
