The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has been asked by the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Department to undertake an extensive study of the design and safety features used in sleeper coach buses.
The action was taken in response to the terrible accident that killed 25 people on a sleeper coach bus last week on the Samruddhi Expressway.
Vivek Bhimanwar, Maharashtra’s transport commissioner, stated, “We have asked the ARAI to re-inspect the design of sleeper buses.”
The Government of India has informed ARAI, a leading vehicle testing and certification organisation, to create the Automotive Industry Standards for sleeper coach buses.
