Tuesday, after a guy made three calls threatening to hurt the senior BJP politician if Rs 10 crore was not handed to him, security was enhanced at Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s home and office in Nagpur, according to a police officer.
The caller identified himself as Jayesh Pujari, also known as Jayesh Kantha. He said that this was the same person whose identity had been used to make similar calls to the minister’s office in January.
Three calls, two in the morning and one around noon, were made to Gadkari’s public relations office in Nagpur, which is located next to Orange City Hospital, according to Rahul Madane, deputy commissioner of police (zone II).
He said that the individual wanted Rs 10 crore and threatened to harm the minister, who oversees roads and road transportation, if the money was not given. The municipal police have opened an inquiry after being notified by Gadkari’s employees, he added. The DCP reported that the minister’s residence and place of business had increased security.
Gadkari’s public relations department received threat calls from a guy posing as Pujari on January 14 demanding Rs 100 crore. The caller identified himself as a Dawood Ibrahim gang member. Pujari, who is now serving a death sentence in a murder case and is being held at Hindalga prison in Belagavi, Karnataka, had denied being involved in the calls.
