Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde said on Thursday that the family of Agniveer Akshay Laxman Gawate, who passed away last week while doing his duties in Siachen, will get help in the amount of Rs 10 lakh.
According to a statement, Shinde also sent his condolences to the family of Gawate, who was from Pimpalgaon Sarai in the Maharashtra district of Buldhana.
Siachen, the world’s highest militarized zone, is located in the Karakoram mountain range at an elevation of around 20,000 feet. There, troops must contend with bitter cold and fierce winds.
All military levels, including Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande, expressed their condolences on Agniveer Gawate’s passing.
“All ranks of Fire and Fury Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of #Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, in the line of duty, in the unforgiving heights of #Siachen and offer deepest condolences to the family,” the Fire and Fury Corps, which is located in Leh, India, said on Sunday morning on X.
