Twelve people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly thrashing a 17-year-old Dalit boy for objecting to a post on social media in Kalyan in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Police gave this information. Two days back, this Dalit teenager, who works in a food delivery company, came across some posts on Instagram regarding Buddha Purnima which he found objectionable.
An official from Khadakpada police station said that when the teenager asked the people who posted the posts to remove them, he got into an argument with them. Police said that the next day some people reached the place of work of the teenager, dragged him along with them to the forest. After this, they stripped him of his clothes and beat him up and then paraded him on the road.
He also put the video of the incident on social media. The officer said that 12 people have been arrested after registering a case on the complaint of the teenager. Further investigation is going on.
