According to police and local authorities, two people drowned and two went missing in separate instances during the immersion of Ganesh idols in Palghar, Maharashtra, on Thursday.
Suraj Prajapati, 25, and Jagat Narayan Mourya, 38, perished on Wednesday night in Konsai Village in Wada Taluka during the immersion of idols, according to the police.
According to a representative from the police control room, firefighters and divers found their remains on Thursday morning.
A search is being conducted to find Prakash Thackeray, 35, who vanished from Gorhe village in the taluka on Wednesday during the immersion of Ganpati idols in a lake.
A search is being conducted for Sanjay Patil, age 40, who went missing in Virar after immersing an idol in the Tansa River.
According to Sudham Pardeshi, a representative of the regional disaster management cell, no such incidence occurred in the Thane district.
After 1.5 days of the 10-day event, more over 43,000 Ganesh idols—including 18 placed in public spaces—were submerged around Thane district, according to officials.
Yasin Tadvi, the head of the municipal organization’s Disaster Management Cell, said that 11,910 Ganpati idols had been submerged in Thane City alone.
In the meanwhile, 4,500 idols were plunged in religious fervor and with great devotion in the nearby Palghar area. As they traveled to the immersion locations to say goodbye to their favorite elephant-headed God, they danced to singing, music, and drumming.
