On Friday, in honour of his 132nd birthday, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the Principal Architect of the Indian Constitution, received heartfelt tributes from people from all walks of life.
In order to pay floral tributes to the illustrious lawyer, economist, social reformer, and freedom warrior, Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, and other ministers travelled to Chaityabhoomi in Dadar.
Top leaders of various major parties, including Congress state President Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar, state chief Jayant Patil, Leader of Opposition (Assembly) Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena (UBTAditya )’s Thackeray, Leader of Opposition (Council) Ambadas Danve, Sanjay Raut, Arvind Sawant and others paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar.
Reports of festivities in honour of Dr. Ambedkar, who is regarded as the Champion of the Downtrodden Masses, have been received from all corners of Maharashtra, from major cities, towns, districts, and even up to the block level.
To honour Dr. Ambedkar’s life, teachings, and accomplishments, a number of private, public, or semi-public institutions, NGOs, and organisations fighting for the cause of the oppressed have organised a number of social and cultural activities throughout the day.
Significant locations directly associated with Dr. Ambedkar include Mumbai’s renowned “Rajgruha,” his residential memorial in Dadar east, the south Mumbai locations of Elphinstone High School and Elphinstone College, where he received his education, and Chaityabhoomi in Dadar West, where he was laid to rest. All of these locations saw large crowds of his enthusiastic supporters travelling from all over the state.
Other significant locations associated with Dr. Ambedkar, including Nagpur’s Deekshabhoomi, where he practised Buddhism, Raigad, where he participated in the Mahad Satyagraha, and his tiny ancestral village of Ambadawe in Ratnagiri, were specially embellished with flowers, vibrant rangolis, and lights to mark the occasion as thousands flocked there to honour his memory.
