It has been more than 30 hours since Saturday’s incident in Akola, Section 144 is in force, today is the third day. Curfew has been imposed in the areas of 4 police stations. So far 82 people have been arrested in connection with the violence that broke out on Saturday over an objectionable post made on social media. Not only this, Internet has been shut down since then. University examinations have been postponed in Akola. A case has been registered against 300 people.
There was a clash between two communities in Maharashtra’s Akola on Saturday over an Instagram post. After this, stone pelting incident have come to fore and miscreants broke many vehicles during this period. One person had died during the violence. While 8 people including two policemen were injured. After this, Section 144 was imposed by deploying a large number of police forces in the area and the police are strictly dealing with those who violate it.
Actually, a religious post was posted on Instagram in the old city of Akola. Because of this, many people gathered and reached the police station and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case in this matter. Meanwhile, the crowd that reached the police station became uncontrollable and started vandalizing the vehicles.
Vilas Gaikwad was killed in the violence. Vilas was 40 years old electrician. According to the police, the mob ransacked the police station after complaining about an objectionable post made on social media. Soon people from another community came in front, they also started pelting stones. There was a fierce clash between the two sides. The police had used force to control the situation. Tear gas shells were released on the miscreants.
SP Sandeep Ghuge told that one person died in the clash. In this case, Vilas’s relative Mohan Kishan Gondwale has filed a complaint. Police is taking action by registering a case.
A video of violence in Akola is going viral. In this, the police is seen firing at the rioters. However, the police fired plastic bullets to control the crowd. So that anti-social elements can be driven away. Despite this, the crowd did not go away. After this the police fired tear gas shells.
