According to an official on Wednesday, four people are suspected of kidnapping and killing a guy in Navi Mumbai on the pretext of theft. The police have already taken custody of three of the suspects.
The incident happened on Tuesday between 9.30 am and 2.30 pm, and the accused also assaulted the dead man’s companion, gravely hurting him, the victim’s friend said.
According to a Kharghar police station officer, the accused trio was taken into custody late on Tuesday night.
Anil Jadhav, a 26-year-old laborer who was hurt, filed a complaint in this regard. It said that four suspects kidnapped him and his companion Vinod Rathod, 35, and kept them prisoner in a store. In addition to hitting and kicking them, the defendants also beat them with stumps, the witness said.
Rathod was shoved against a wall, when he became unconscious and eventually passed away. The source further said that the incident left Jadhav with significant injuries.
Three of the four suspects were taken into custody. One of them has a welding business. He believed the two victims had taken iron rods from the area outside his store. With the assistance of three other people, he kidnapped them and beat them, according to senior inspector Rajiv Shejwal.
According to him, a complaint was filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder), 367 (kidnapping or abducting with the aim to cause great bodily harm, enslavement, etc.), 342 (wrongful detention), 324 (voluntarily inflicting harm), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention).
According to the police, the suspects are store owner Dinkar Pralhad Lavand (42), Abhimanyu Bihari Yadav (24), and Rajkumar Sriramdhani Yadav (27). A search is now on to find the fourth suspect, Gulab Amarsingh Chavan (also known as Pintu Chavan).
