Politics is in full swing in Maharashtra regarding the issues of Maratha reservation, Manoj Jarange, who is on fast in Jalna, has demanded that Kunbi certificates should be given to the people of Maratha community in Maharashtra. However, CM Shinde has adopted a positive attitude regarding this. But meanwhile, social activist Manoj Jarange on Saturday hardened his stand, saying that until Marathas in Maharashtra get Kunbi caste certificates under the OBC category, their fast will continue and he has asked to collect water and medicine from Sunday. Threatened to shut down.
Earlier this week, the Maharashtra Cabinet decided that Kunbi caste certificates will be issued to Marathas from the Marathwada region who have Nizam-era revenue or education documents identifying them as Kunbi. Announcing the cabinet decision, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said he would also talk to his Telangana CM for any help in the matter. Based on the Cabinet decision, a Government Resolution (GR) was issued on September 7, but it failed to satisfy Jarangay.
Jarange said that our demand is that the Maratha community in Maharashtra should get Kunbi caste certificate. He also rejected the latest outcome of talks held with Maratha community leaders and a government delegation late Friday night in Mumbai. Kunbi, an agricultural community, is classified under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category in Maharashtra and also enjoys reservation benefits in education and government jobs. The Marathwada region was part of the erstwhile Hyderabad kingdom before becoming part of Maharashtra.
Apart from the demand for amendment in the September 7 GR, Jarange has made three more demands. He has said that the government had brought out a GR in 2004 recognizing Kunbis, Maratha-Kunbis and Kunbi-Marathas as OBCs (Other Backward Classes), but it was too harsh and did not benefit those who were eligible for the quota. Were entitled to. He has asked the government to amend that GR.
He also demanded action against the policemen who lathi-charged protesters in Jalna district last week and withdrawal of police cases against the agitators. The Maratha reservation issue has become a major challenge for the state government after the police resorted to lathi charge on a violent mob in Antarwali Sarati last week after the protesters allegedly refused to allow the authorities to shift Jarange to a hospital.
