For “not doing anything” to prevent accidents on the Samruddhi Motorway, where it happened, the Shinde-led administration is to blame. The Buldhana catastrophe, according to Thackeray, should alert the authorities to the fact that more than 300 people have died on the motorway since it opened last year.
Around 1.30 am on Saturday, the bus carrying them caught fire on the Samruddhi Motorway in Pimpalkhuta hamlet close to Sindkhedraja in Buldhana, killing all 25 people on board. Police said that there were 33 people inside the car, eight of whom made it out alive.
The 520-kilometer-long Phase-1 of the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December of the previous year. Its official name is “Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg,” and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is the man behind the initiative.
Thackeray stated in a statement that the Buldhana disaster was regrettable and distressing, adding that over 300 people had died in accidents on the Samruddhi Motorway in the previous year.
But nothing has been done by the administration to curb the accidents. The Buldhana catastrophe should make the administration more aware, the previous chief minister expressed hope.
