The corona virus, which has been almost eradicated for the last few days, has once again increased in Maharashtra. Once again a slight increase in the number of corona patients has been registered in the state. Along with this, a new variant of Corona Omicron EG.5.1 has also been found. For the first time in the country, a patient of this variant has been found. According to Dr. Rajesh Karkte, Senior Researcher of the B.J. Medical College and Coordinator of Maharashtra Genome Sequencing, the Omicron EG.5.1 variant was discovered in May. However, after this, the number of patients of this variant did not remain high in June and July. Only XBB.1.16 and XBB.2.3 variants have been detected in the state in the last two months.
According to the information received from the State Health Department, there has been an increase in the number of corona patients in the month of August. By the end of July, the number of active corona patients in the state was 70. But on August 6, the number of corona patients revealed was 115. The total number of active corona patients on Monday is 109. The Omicron EG.5.1 variant is believed to be responsible for the increasing number of patients. Earlier this EG.5.1 variant has caused concern in England. Due to this variant, the number of corona patients in England had increased rapidly.
Omicron’s variant EG.5.1 has not found many patients across the country yet. However, new corona patients admitted to the hospital are being monitored. Currently there are 43 active patients of Corona in Mumbai. After this there are 34 active corona patients in Pune and 25 in Thane. Raigarh, Sangli, Solapur, Satara and Palghar have one active patient each. According to the information given by a senior official, looking at the current situation, it cannot be said that there has been a huge increase in the number of corona patients. At present, we are monitoring the situation. The situation is being reviewed every week.
From June to September, the number of patients with respiratory diseases increases. That’s why it will be investigated whether the number of patients has not increased due to corona. The official said, however, that there has definitely been a slight increase in the number of corona patients in the last three-four days.
