Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Friday, leading to water-logging in several areas of the city. Traffic was also disrupted at many places due to water-logging in low-lying areas. However, many areas are still waterlogged. South Mumbai’s Colaba and western suburb Santacruz recorded 92.2 mm and 115.2 mm of rain, respectively, from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Limited (BEST) diverted buses on more than 12 routes in the afternoon due to water-logging in Sion, an official said. It is known that due to heavy rains, low-lying areas like Andheri, Kurla, Ghatkopar and Chembur have been waterlogged. Andheri Subway has been closed for traffic due to floods, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.
Railway officials claimed that trains operated normally on the Western, Central and Harbor lines, while passengers complained of delays of up to 10 to 15 minutes in train services.
